When you buy designer bedding, are you getting more value for your money? Many will say a most defiantly “yes” while others will say “not necessarily.” So how do you know what determines the quality of sheets and designer bedding?
Many manufacturers will tout thread-count as the determining factor in choosing bed sheets. Though others will say the “quality” of the fibers and not the count are more important to the comfort and durability of the sheets and designer bedding.
Take for example the popular jersey type and flannel sheets and those made from linen. Sheets of this type have a low thread-count yet their softness is what makes them so popular. It is true that in general higher thread-count sheets and designer bedding are softer, but as you can see from this example, it is not always the determining factor in selecting bed sheets and designer bedding.
Some will choose less expensive bedding for budget reasons, while others will choose to have the “designer” sheets, comforters and designer bedding. Therefore, why do we choose designer bedding over the bargain brands?
Simply said in one word, marketing. Manufacturers as well as designers know that if the word “designer” is associated with any product, it will have a higher marketable value. Couple this with the designer’s name and you have a product that is automatically (in most cases) associated with high value among many consumers.
Therefore I suggest when you are selecting sheets and designer bedding, look for a combination of these factors. First, find a product that you like the way it looks. Then you can do the “feel test” to see if the softness is what you are searching for. Read the labels and compare the thread-count, material and cost to determine if the value.
